Introduction…

Provide support to the Project Architect with end-to-end architectural / infrastructure projects, inclusive of overseeing or managing less complex projects as allocated.

Minimum Requirements…

EDUCATION:

  • NDip in Architecture
  • B Tech in Architecture (Advantageous)
  • Qualification in Project Administration/Management (Advantageous)
  • Working knowledge of building technologies, environmental design, ability to employ structural practice, construction techniques and processes.
  • Working Knowledge of technical standards, regulatory frameworks and health & safety;
  • Must understand all codes and be able to produce a complete set of construction documents including written specifications

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an Architectural industry.
  • Experience in project administration or management. (Advantageous)
  • Proficient in CAD
  • Experience using REVIT (Advantageous

Job Specification…

Provide Support to the Project Architect with Relevant Architectural / Infrastructure Project/s and Sites.

Assist the Project Architect with the development of project briefs and work on these as the project progresses

Support the Project Architect with managing construction site, builder compliance with design specifications and advise on design corrections Check dimensions of materials to be used and assign numbers to lists of materials.

Provide input in to procedures and instructions to be followed, according to design specifications and quantity of required materials.

Prepare cost estimates, contracts, bidding documents and technical reports for allocated projects, providing it to the Project Architect for review and authorisation.

Contribute to the lay out and planning of room arrangements for commercial buildings, using computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment and software.

Contribute to structural, electrical and mechanical designs and determine a method of presentation in order to graphically represent building plans

Adhere to by-laws, space, site requirements, and other technical documents and reports, in order to determine their effect on architectural designs.

Work in accordance with the relevant legislation, escalating any deviations to the project Architect, including, but not limited to:

Occupational Health and Safety Act No.85 of 1993 and regulations.

Construction Regulations 2014 guidelines.

National Environmental Management Act No.107 of 1998.

Liaise with appropriate authorities (e.g. planning enquiries and building inspectors) when producing documentation for statutory approval

Coordinate with outside consultants, including engineers to validate designs and other relevant information

Perform design-stage risk assessments and provide it to the Project Architect for review and authorisation

Assist with and Coordinate Mapping and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Operations under the supervision of the Project Architect

Monitor design process from conception to construction administration to ensure consistency of design idea

Review accuracy of calculations, estimates, plans and completed reports and provide feedback to the Project Architect

Prepare and present design proposals to internal stakeholders, using computer-aided design (CAD) and other design software, as well as traditional drawing methods, under the guidance of the Project Architect

Operate CAD equipment or conventional drafting station to produce designs, working drawings, charts, forms and records.

Make use of the CAD software to maintain, prepare and digitise various forms of diagrams and drawings for engineering and office projects

Travel onsite to collect data needed for creation of various forms of diagrams and drawings for engineering and office projects

Maintain CAD system (i.e. Update the system regularly, upload files, capture work completed, etc.)

Develop and Maintain Internal and External Stakeholder Relationships for junior to middle management

Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Communicate with internal and external stakeholders through various communication channels

Liaise with other professionals (Structure engineer, Mechanical engineer, Electrical engineer, I.T, Security and other external contractors) and clients to discuss the project brief

Obtain feedback from clients and individuals occupying the building, and provide feedback to the Project Architect regarding the performance of the contractors once the construction project is completed

Contact municipal building department and government agency officials for approvals

Escalate any concerns or need for higher approval to the Project Architect for higher resolution

As and when required to do so, assist the Project Architect with Analysing Data and Compiling Architectural Designs

Obtain and contribute to the assembly of data relating to the site

Compile available data for decision making in terms of the property portfolio and provide a report to the Project Architect for review

Visit the relevant job sites to determine and compile the necessary measurements to obtain sign-off from all relevant stakeholders

Assist with drawing rough, as well as detailed scale plans for foundations, buildings and structures based on:

Preliminary concepts

Sketches

Engineering calculations

Specification sheets

Other relevant data

Contribute and provide input in to planning applications and other regulatory application procedures as defined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act as well as SANS regulations.

Appraise the performance of buildings which are in use and produce maintenance management information to the Project Architect and Senior Management for review

Collects and researches related information regarding a proposed project
